I can't wait to dive into Batman, Justice League, Catwoman, and Star Wars - Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm. Scott Snyder, Geoff Johns, Judd Winick and John Ostrander have been maintaining a level of amazing story telling on the books they work on that makes me put them at the bottom of my read pile to save the best for last.
The Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes cross over ends this week, and I have enjoyed this mini series, but there hasn't been to much in the way of action despite things happening. So, I am curious to see how they wrap it all up in this last issue.
The new Vertigo title Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child comes out today and I'm going to give it a read. We'll see if it becomes a new title I pick up in the future.
This week is the first week that I will not be picking up any Marvel titles and I'm not bothered by this fact.
I think it is time for you to get to reading your pile of books. Enjoy!

Really? I think Johns has been turning in some of the weakest stuff with JL. I can't speak for Aquaman or Green Lantern, but it's... just not amazing IMO. I will say though, you're right about Snyder; he's been killing it on Batman. Nightwing was great this week too, and it ties in with Batman kinda.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what did you think of Shazam? I thought the complete 180 Billy Batson character change was unnecessary.
I can see your disappointment with JL. The story doesn't seem to have as much oomph as Aquaman and Green Lantern. I did find JL a little choppy from issue to issue. I'm going to reread those first six issues to see if the flow holds up or if I'm right about the abrupt scene changes and such.
DeleteNightwing was okay. It was interesting to see the same scene drawn from another perspective.
Shazam? Billy goes from nice kid to asshole faster than you can say Stupid. I can see it relating to a younger generation of readers, but yes it seemed unnecessary to me. And if this is suppose to be a backup this first installment felt more like a preview than a part one. So, far I'm hopeful.
Well, I thought JL was some big dumb fun with the first arc, but it's weird how differently he writes his characters from book to book, not to mention that Hal is in this book but it's supposed to be present day. This doesn't bother me as much as that the characters interact as they did in the first arc, set 5 years back. Also the dialog for the public can be bad at times but whatever.
DeleteStill I don't think it's terrible, and there's something kinda funny about seeing the League as a bunch of fratboys as another podcast put it, but I was hoping for a bit more considering the talent. I guess you just need to buy the individual series for the character development. Next issue has Carlos D'anda art (plus Green Arrow) though so even if i jump off i'm still getting that. Dude needs to be on a monthly series.
