Comics Conspiracy TV Ads...What?

Comics Conspiracy had TV ads at one point. They are prime example of cheesy. Check them out.

Random Comic Pick - Episode 10

My random comic pick on The Comic Conspiracy: Episode 10 is Batman: Long Halloween written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale. Loeb and Sale are a great creative team and Long Halloween shows this through out every page. The story is about a murderer who only kills on holidays. Batman must figure out who it is before the killer strikes again.
A couple of people on The Official "Recommend me some comics!" Thread! have asked for Batman reading recommendations and since there is no definitive place to start reading Batman you have to look at individual stories and just jump in. This was the case for me when I got back into comics four years ago. I picked up Long Halloween on Ryan Higgins recommendation for Batman reading and I really enjoyed it. So check out Long Halloween if you want to read a great Batman story.

Random Comic Pick - Episode 9

My random comic pick on The Comic Conspiracy: Episode 9 is Green Lantern: Secret Origin written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Ivan Reis. In anticipation for the Green Lantern film due out next month I thought it was pertinent to select Secret Origin as my Random Comic Pick. Geoff Johns took great care in retelling this newer version of the origin story for Hal Jordan, and his journey to become the Green Lantern of sector 2814. The movie coming out next month is going to be heavily based on this book and if it is anything like the comic it will definitely be an amazing film.
Green Lantern: Secret Origin is a great place to jump in and get you hands green in the DC Universe. Check out my Green Lantern Reading List for more titles to read through if you like Green Lantern.
So, pick up Green Lantern: Secret Origin for a great read, and if you get it from your local shop it really helps support them right now because they probably got it on consignment and would love to sell through as many copies as possible.

Just watched the Conan the Barbarian Trailer and it looks entertaining enough to see in the theater. It will most likely be a discussion topic on The Comic Conspiracy and we may go see it to talk about it. If not then I might just have to see if my girlfriend's father if he is interested in watching it. He might because he likes action and adventure movies. We will see.

Flashpoint Map Sparks Racism?

The world according to Flashpoint has raised the racism flag again. Africa is "Ape - Controlled" and there is an "Asian Capital". DC is now totally racist. NOT!

The internet is a buzz with this fan-boy rant bullshit and I for one think it is yet another example of the stupidity of people as a whole. The main reason for these "Ape - Controlled" and "Asian Capital" labels are simple; Gorilla Grodd is from Gorilla City, which is in Africa, and this "Asian Capital" is in Asia, as in the fucking continent!

So, where does the racism come into play here? Oh, I know, narrow minded people with personal filters made out of ignorance and stupidity only see the "drama" in the meaning of something. Watch any reality TV show for an example of this.

What I got from the article on Comic Book Resources are as follows:

1) DC is NOT racist.
2) Fan-boys have way to much time on their hands now that they don't have to go shop for their porn out in the real world. Stream-Beat It-Repeat.
3) People are stupid. This is a given though.
4) The internet sucks yet again.
5) DC is NOT racist.

DMZ #65

I wrote a letter a few months ago commenting on how much I enjoy DMZ and they published my letter in this week's issue #65. I am such a comic book geek, but I'm okay with that.

Marvel Cosmic Reading

Marvel has had some really good cosmic stories lately and so I thought I should put this reading list together. I have read them and enjoyed them a lot. Unfortunately Marvel doesn't like to keep great titles around. The series that spawned from the Main stories below (Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova) have been canceled. Hopefully Marvel comes to their senses after Annihilators and gives us Guardians and Nova again. Who knows?

Main Stories:

Annihilation: Vol. 1
Annihilation: Vol. 2
Annihilation: Vol. 3

Annihilation: Conquest - Vol. 1
Annihilation: Conquest - Vol. 2
Annihilation: Conquest - Quasar

War of Kings: Road to War of Kings
War of Kings
Realm of Kings

The Thanos Imperative

Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 2):

Legacy
War of Kings: Book 1
War of Kings: Book 2
Realm of Kings

Nova (Vol. 4):

Annihilation - Conquest
Knowhere
Secret Invasion
Nova Corps
War of Kings
War of Kings: Warriors
Realm of Kings

Annihilators
Annihilators: Earthfall

I hope you enjoy these Marvel Cosmic titles. I know I did, and I can't wait for some omnibus collections of these books.

Random Comic Pick - Episode 8

My random comic pick on The Comic Conspiracy: Episode 8 is Star Wars: Legacy written by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, and illustrated by Duursema and others. We had discussed licensed material a few episodes ago and I had just started to read the Star Wars: Dark Empire and Dark Empire II so I decided to give another Star Wars series a try. I was at a Borders that was closing and found the first two trades for Star Wars: Legacy. I picked them up and have enjoyed this series so far. I'm on the fifth trade currently, but from the first four I decided to make it my "Random Comic Pick" for Episode 8. The series is set 125 years after the death of Vader and the galaxy is still in turmoil. Check it out if you like Star Wars and even if you don't. It is a great read.

Brody Ethan Sager

Was born on Wednesday May 11th 2011 at 6:00am. He was 7 lbs 10 oz and 19 and half inches. He is healthy and strong. Everything a brand new father could ask for. Calli is recovering well and did an amazing job bringing little Brody into this world. Let the molding (aka corrupting) begin.

Conspirator Brock's Pull List for 5/11/11

For all of the curious people out there wondering what I like to read week to week here is a list of the titles I am going to be picking up for the week of 5/11/11:

First off I must say that I am sorry for the delay in posting this week's pull list. I was a little busy becoming a new father. Brody Ethan Sager was born at 6 in the morning on Wednesday May, 11th 2011 (new comic book day!). Brody and his mother are home now and doing great. Now on to what I'm looking forward to this week is short and sweet; Flashpoint #1 of 5. There will definitely be talk on Episode 8 so stay tuned. I have to cut this short. Have to go take care of my son and his beautiful mother.

As usual I'll be talking comics on The Comic Conspiracy, and on the Geekbox Forums. Now get out there and enjoy some good old fashioned comic book reading.

Random Comic Pick - Episode 7

My random comic pick on The Comic Conspiracy: Episode 7 is Guardians of the Galaxy (vol. 2) which is written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and features various artists throughout its 25 issue run. This new team came out of the Annihilation: Conquest story by Abnett and Lanning, and was such a fun book to read.I was heart broken when it was canceled before Thanos Imperative.
The book follows a collection of space characters from the Marvel Universe and it is one of the best team books I've ever read. If you are looking for something that has it all then you need to give this series a try.

Green Lantern Reading List Update

I went in and updated the Green Lantern Reading list, and I will be trying to keep this post updated as best I can so check back for updates every so often.

Conan the Barbarian Teaser Trailer

Just watched the Conan the Barbarian Teaser and I must say that it is a boring and not intriguing teaser at all. Smoke and images and shit dialogue; so far I'm not impressed or looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully a better trailer will change my mind. Rose McGowan and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy is a must watch TV by the way) star in this new version and even this isn't enough to get me really excited for this film. I think the shitty dialogue from the teaser is still bouncing around in my head and making it cringe in pain.

Conspirator Brock's Pull List for 5/4/11

For all of the curious people out there wondering what I like to read week to week here is a list of the titles I am going to be picking up for the week of 5/4/11:

1. Adventure Comics #526 DC
2. Annihilators #3 of 4 Marvel
3. Brightest Day: Vol. 2 (Hardcover) DC
4. DC Universe Online: Legends #7 DC
5. Fear Itself: The Home Front #2 of 7 Marvel
6. House of Mystery #37 Vertigo
7. Ozma of Oz #6 of 8 Marvel

Small ass week. I'm actually in shock at how little I actually picked up this week. Of course this let me procure the Brightest Day: Vol. 2 (Hardcover). Overall, I can't really say I'm looking forward to any one book in particular this week. If you noticed I didn't pick up Fear Itself #2...I'll save it for the podcast.

As usual I'll be talking comics on The Comic Conspiracy, and on the Geekbox Forums. Now get out there and enjoy some good old fashioned comic book reading.

Prelude to Thor Movie

I've always had a hot and cold feeling about Thor. Sometimes I like him other times I don't. So, this Friday night (5/6/11) I will be watching Thor and hoping that the movie falls into my like Thor category. The trailers haven't done anything to catch my interest except that the Destroyer and (what appear to be) Frost Giants look awesome.
I will not be watching this movie in 3D. I actually like watching my movies vs. getting a headache trying to experience some novelty that didn't catch on years ago and honestly never will.
My girlfriend is really excited for the film not from a comic stand point; she thinks Chris Hemsworth is HOT! He's okay in my estimation, but I did like him in his small role in Star Trek as Kirk's father. Let's see how well he can carry a whole film as the God of Thunder, but he does have some good back up with Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.
We will talk a lot of Thor in Episode 7 and on the Geekbox Forumsso I'm going to end my prelude here.

Random Comic Pick - Episode 6

My random comic pick on The Comic Conspiracy: Episode 6 is Peter & Max: a Fables Novel written by Bill Willingham; with cover and interior art by Steve Leialoha. This is a prose novel set in the fantasy world Willingham has created with his Vertigo title FABLES. You might be turned off by the fact that my recommendation this week is an actual book, but I assure you it is a quick and fun read that you will enjoy. Peter & Max is an intriguing story about the sibling rivalry between Peter Piper and his older brother Max. I picked this up right when it came out and really enjoyed it. I know it is a prose novel, but it is definitely worth the read; even if you haven't read any FABLES comics before.
